Hrm,
So whats going on with mudgamers?
It sounded cool off the get go, but the last few months have been dead.
Are you still developing it?
Are you promoting it?
Do you need help/ideas with anything?
When this first came out, I know alot of us had hoped it would make up
for mudmagic going down. I know that was not your intent from talking
to you, but whats the status of things now?

The site is here as a resource for those who wish to use it and is still accepting game listings, but at this time I'm not developing or promoting it any further. There hasn't been enough interest from the 'mud community' and without their support there is no point in me promoting the site to players.
Things may change in the future, but for now I am putting my effort into other projects.
I posted my thoughts about mudgamers on my blog a while back.

It's a shame it hasn't taken off yet, I thought your ideas were quite visionary. It's not that often that you see someone in the mudding community come forward with a vision and a plan like this. Having read your blog, I agree with your reference of Voting to Pavlov's dog, sadly this is true despite the fact the current system you have in place compared to say, what MM had, which IMO was a failure even though it did attract players to the site. However, it's still early days yet in the coming months the community in general might come to be more aware or indeed appreciative of the site. One can only hope so.

I still think you should do daily voting.
It might not be something you like, but it would draw players, which in turn would eventually get more muds using the flash.
Your choice, but to let it go to wayside because of your hatred of voting systems seems like a waste of time.

Thanks Gotrek, and I still believe the premise of the site is a sound one. However it's clear that it's going to take more time and effort to push forward than I have to give to it right now, but hopefully I can pick things up again in the future.
It's not that I hate voting systems Vladaar, I just don't want to create that kind of site. Instead I want a community site which provides a variety of ways to find games by rating, popularity, genre, etc., rather than one big ranking list. I believe this is more useful to players and helps them to more easily try out a wide range of games, rather than pushing them towards a few games that get the most votes.

Although Vladaar might be right about daily voting in terms of drawing people in and in turn stimulate growth, the fact is they are ugly, ugly things. Even if it were to be considered, it would have to be done so that it doesn't over shadow whats their in anyway, shape or form. Even in so far as a disclaimer, Eg: "This voting category doesn't nessecarily reflect the quality of the MUD in question and users should consult the star rating system before making a decision." Most people I know quite like the current set up as opposed to say, what Mudmagic/mudrage had. Something for consideration I suppose, but I know I personally could sleep at night without a voting system.
As I mentioned earlier, it is still early days yet and correct me if I'm wrong but in general people have heard about the site via word of mouth. I remember seeing a post on Mudbytes a while back. Once MUD owners start to see the potential of the site things should pick up, as I imagine that their players would be encouraged to go along and rate the MUD, do their bit to try and attract more players and so forth.
I could take up one of my rune axes and hack through the resistance but it might end out to be an epic battle and without my trusty manling poet (as trusty as a manling can get…) to pen the saga, how will the young beardlings get inspired to go out and slay 100 grobi each.

How can MudMagic's voting have been a failure? You said yourself that it attracted people to the site. Wasn't that the entire purpose of MudMagic's voting? Sounds like a success to me.

In so much so that wasn't even close to an accurate reflection of a MUDs quality 99% of time.

True, but I'm not honestly sure that was even Calvin's aim. Calvin used to quite commonly state he planned to put Mudconnect and Wolfpaw out of business. This, at least to me, made it quite clear he cared more about traffic and sales than anything else and that the voting actually did exactly what he had intended it to.

I'm glad to see mudgamers goto the voting system. It will definitely bring traffic to the site.
I will now be pestering you to allow reviews :) Heh, one thing at a time I guess.

Heh, well you can already review games – you could either post the review as a comment on the game listing, or create a topic on the forum and post it there.
