My name is Matt and I am the administrator of MudGamers. I've been playing text games since the late 90s and have tried quite a few but my favourite is probably Avalon for the immersive world and challenging PvP. I've also been into most of the major graphical MMORPGs over the years, but my interest in them has waned lately. I recently turned 35 and I suppose it's a sure sign of age that I am more likely to be playing Lego Star Wars with my wife on the Wii than raiding in WoW Surprised.

I am also working on a game right now, Maiden Desmodus, with my partner Wade Gustafson. We have a pretty hectic development schedule and hope to be open for a Beta early next year. We used Nakedmud as a starting point and it's really helped speed things up a lot. Wade is a great writer and I think it's going to be a fun hybrid game with some RPI elements as well as a lot of PvP and political struggle.

I am not sure what possessed me to put up this site, particularly as the listing criteria exclude my own game Undecided. I guess I want to try and see if I can change the way people play MUDs in order to make them more appealing to new gamers. I really believe that there are a lot of potential players out there who would enjoy MUDs if they were presented to them in a format they are more familiar with.

Good luck with the project, I definitely agree with you that we need to change the way we look at finding new players.  The MUD "community" has way too much in-fighting, sure we all want players but working together we can bring in more for all of us instead of fighting over the few players we have now.

You might be on to something here, the Flash idea is interesting and the site looks good (besides the green… too much green…) and hopefully will attract new people.  The question is, how do you envision getting the word beyond the already established community?  Ads on other sites will cost, but I don't see any place on your site you've set up to offset that cost for yourself.

Thanks Kunin, and while I like the green I have been thinking of doing a blue themed version to see which people prefer Smile.

I do have a marketing strategy and I'll be putting that into place as the site develops further but right now I am focused on getting games listed and helping as many of them as possible get enabled for the Flash client.

Once I get the site a bit more complete I will be looking at options for generating revenue such as placing adds or offering sponsored listings. It's going to be a bit of a chicken and egg situation unfortunately; the site needs to generate revenue to support advertising to build traffic, yet it will not be attractive to advertisers without that traffic. Putting in an adsense block may help a little, but I expect much of the initial costs will come from my own pocket.

Of course if you have any suggestions please let me know.
